Before all things, there was Y’Lisi, the All Knowing. She flew over the infinite dark expanse of the Void Waters, content in her omniscience. She bathed in these Waters and took pleasure in shaping them how she pleased.


But she eventually began to grow lonely. Y’Lisi longed for the company of others, longed for their warmth. So, she sang a song. She sang a haunting melody that would give birth to all things. Her singing rang forth in perfect clarity, resonating within the Void Waters, and the liquid itself began shifting into a new form.

Y’Lisi molded the liquid abyss like it was soft clay, shaping it into the nexus realm of Null. However, the Void Waters were infinite and would surely consume Null if left unchecked. So, she drew from that dark infinity, compressing all the Void into the swirling Abyss of the Dream.

This Abyss took the form of a swirling, never-ending stormy vortex. A portal, which lead to the Realm of Nightmare, an ethereal plane of eternal night and suffering.


Alas, even Y’Lisi, in her infinite power and wisdom, could not contain all the Void to this vortex. It began to leak out, drift up to Null like a corrupting poison. Despite Y’Lisi’s best efforts, she could only save half of Null. The corrupted half would forever be shrouded in darkness. Y’Lisi’s heart shattered at this event, and so she named this half Malevolence, after this never-ending and all-enveloping darkness.


To combat this still-spreading Void, Y’Lisi took flame from her own divine essence, and breathed it over the realm. The other half of Null was bathed in eternal and beautiful light. Y’Lisi wept at the beauty of this great place, and named this half Benevolence, after the divine and good light that would forever shine forth from this half of Null. Y’Lisi had saved this new realm from destruction, but she had expended too much energy in the battle and could not continue existing as she was. She stood on the dividing line between the two halves of Null and sang again. A beautiful, somber song that brightened the light and darkened the night around her. Her very essence was splitting in two.

Y’Lisi was clever, and this song was crafted to also bring forth millions of creatures of all shapes and sizes from the soil of the two halves. The light and the dark of the two realms shaped the creatures further, morphing them into separate forms. Humanoid creations sprung forth, yes, but also all manner of strange and divine beasts, most of these not easily describable to any NullBorn. Her heart ached, for she knew she would not live to see these new creations that she so longed for the company of. But she knew this was what had to be done. When the final note rang into silence, Y’Lisi had become two.


The half of her that had been corrupted by the Void became the Empress of Malevolence, T’Nthrax. The half of her that bathed in radiant light became the Queen of Benevolence, Riikthir. The two rulers went their separate ways, content to explore their newfound realm and newfound selves.
